ABOUT US
The Ceylon Disc Jockey’s Association (CDJA) was incorporated on the 5th of July 2020 under Section 34 of the Companies Act. Connecting both the present and past DJs within an industry with a rich history of over nearly 50 years is one of the cornerstones the CDJA.
The forming of a Association was an idea in the making for many years, however it became more apparent during the hardships faced by many DJs in recent times; and as an industry we recognized a need for a single; Unified Voice for all Disc Jockey’s alike in Sri Lanka; thus, the Ceylon Disc Jockey’s Association was born.
MISSION & VISION
The CDJA is committed to improving the career opportunities, performance and success of its members while bring together DJs from all around Sri Lanka under a single National Organization. We also aspire to gain the Professional recognition that talented and good DJs truly deserve.
OUR HISTORY
DJing in Sri Lanka can be traced back to the mid Seventies along with a vibrant Night Club circuit that prevailed at the time. Whilst venues such as the Coconut Grove, Blue Leopard, Cats Eye, the Flame Room, Super Club etc. gave prominence to Live Bands, recorded music was played only between band breaks. The birth of the first purpose built, TRIP Discotheque in 1977 could be noted as the period when Professional DJing immerged in Sri Lanka.

The commercializing of the DJ Industry in the mid to late Seventies could be credited to DJs such as Gerry Jayasinghe, Harpo Goonaratne, Denver Sansoni, Mervin Direx, Sunil Sithunayaka, Eugene Cook and the late Mr. Gabo Peris to name a few. Although he was not a DJ, Gabo was a house hold name in the entertainment scene, with an exuberant personality; he is widely regarded as one who kick started the Mobile Disco Circuits in Sri Lanka. From the DJ to the Sound Supplier, to the Lighting Specialist there surfaced the first generation of DJ Entrepreneurs in the trade.
